Fish Bum

Hi,

just wondering what kind of bottom contour people are putting on fish these days. I am in the process of skinning my kneeboard blank for a 6’0 fish and thought that if the bottom could stay flat then i wouldnt have to worry about pesky vee or concaves/double concaves etc - just might simplify things for a first timer like myself. any ideas?

Thanks

MY 2 cents: I think you should do exactly that.

Spend your time on getting the rocker, rails, outline, thickness flow, and fins right.

I 2nd what Janklow said. It’s plenty challenging to get a nice flat bottom and smooth rocker. Besides, there are many who prefer plain vanilla flat bottom boards so it’s not like it is a design anomly. They work well in wide range of conditions

Flat bottom fish is good. Mike

Thanks wise ones,

flat bottom it is.

yes, you can make a flat bottom fish, do it just for the halibut…

Holy Mackeral! That was berry punny.

He did it on porpouise.

Can we get a moderator over here? Quick.

What’s the matter, you hard of herring?

Jeez,

all these puns are making me crabby…

Be careful you don’t pull a mussel. We’ll be waiting with baited breath to see how it turns out.

…I think he got away, guys.

But I bet he’s having a whale of a time. If not, we may not be able to lure him back.

…these jokes about tails are hard to swallow…

Don’t you need some V in the tail?

if hes not happy with concave

perhaps he can fillet

I’m back and see that my question has become the halibut of your fishy remarks.

Things progressing at a slow pace with blank. Crust on deck bloody hard - too hard with sandpaper or surform. Hand planer will be the go i reckon.
