Fish For Big Guys?

Any such a beast around? I’m 220 lbs. I figure it’d have to be at least 8 feet long. Am I crazy??? Templates anyone?LOL!

BDB, I think you might be confusing traditional shorty fish for a swallow tail surfboard.

TSF, if ridden correctly in typical small surf, up to 1.5 overhead, usually is ridden about 6" to 10" SHORTER than your shortboard.

So typically, maybe a 6’4" x 23" board with a 17" tail is perfect for your weight.

The rep for Quicksilver around here, former boatman at Tavarua, uses a 5’6" x 22 fish…he’s 180lbs.

Starved, a 155lbs. surfer uses a 5’4" x 21 fish.

If you are making a swallow tail twin fin surfboard, you can make it any length you want, and it would work for general small wave surfing.

I assume you really want a 8’ board that floats you can can ride small waves…go wider than 24, thicker than 3.5, and just call it a small wave board.

I’m 225 lb and recently finished a 6’4" x 22" fish. I would definetly go shorter next time.

The twin keel fish is supposed to be ridden pretty damn short. But with their width, thickness and low rocker, they catch waves almost like a longboard.

Get hold of a Clark 6’9"A blank, there is plenty of foam in it and the natural rocker is pretty decent.

Beg, borrow or steal a ride on one, even if you think it is way too small, you may just surprise yourself.

About a month ago, I impulsively (after about 15 years of waiting for the right opportunity) bought a 6’6" CI fish. I’m 48 and about 215, but this thing is so beefy that it planes easily in knee-high mush. On head-high pointbreak waves it screams.

I’m about 200lbs and have a 6’8"x21.5"x3" fish. I’ll propably go shorter and much thinner next time around.

regards,

Håvard

The one I made is 6’2" and 3" thick foiled to the ends. I will go a little shorter and down to 2.5" next time. It is EPS and epoxy, I weigh around 205-220lbs from winter to summer. As was said they catch waves like a LB and trim and accelerate like no other board I have owned.Ride a shorter one before making one if you can, you will be surprised at the wave catching and trimming ability of this design. Have fun…peace and waves…
