fish from an old windsurf

Hi all, i have found in garage my first cracked windsurf.

was destined to the dustbin, but i want to try to obtain a fish from this recicled blank.

i have delaminated the top  and maintained the bottom ( something like surftech, sandwich of foam, high density poliuretane and carbon skins). the bottom have a vee.

afte relimination of excess foam and cutting of the outline I added the stringer, to bend the blank according to the measurements of Lis fish.

I tried to shape this blank improvised according to the template that is on the web.

if I confirm that what has been done nn has something wrong or you have any suggestions regarding changes continue with the filling and leveling of holes in the mast and streps box before laminating

what do you think?

foil and keels position (the keel is also copied from theLis’s  template).

have you suggestions for the keels? have to be double foiled?have you suggestion about the max thickness of the keel?

thank you a lot

i have cut an example from 15 mm ply.

Hi Steve,
Nice project. Double foil or single foil is personal preference.  There are no rules.  I’d bevel that butt crack.  It will help you foil the tail a bit more. Line the fins up with the top of the crack, about 1 1/2 inches from the rail. Straight up, no can’t if you go double foils.  Mike

thank you Mike! do you mean something like this or more (i have to shape the foam now, i have only beveled the stringer).  regarding keel thickness my 15mm ply are right?

That fin looks way too thick.

Get a rat tail file to clean up the stringer at the buttcrack.
Rocker as is, it will paddle fast, go fast, and stick it’s forward rails on hard turns. Either increase rocker or soften front rails.

Thank you guys!

I will try to soften front rails this week end.

For the keel foil i can use a NACA foil? if it is correct what shape you suggest me (00XX)?

hi all, i have finish the lamination, now i have to glass on the keels.

in according with your suggestions the fin position is: 1 1/2 from rail, straight with the stinger.

i have a doubt around the cant: the bottom have a vee, for have a 0° cant the angle is parallel to the stringer or have to be 90° from the vee?

Thank you for any help

Yes the 4-digit naca profile works good.

You can use finFoil to calculate the contours for you plywood. (use finFoil v0.4, it uses the naca 4-digit profile)

Thanks Hans i’ve used your program and foiled my keels with the program output

Thank you for sharing!

Hi , i’ve finished the project.

contains the result of imperfections in a future building will not be making more
Now I wait for the test,
