Fish - size and fin setup

Looking to try a fish, but I have a couple questions:

  1. Size: Not sure what size. I’m 5’9" 185lbs and my every day board is a 5’10" modern fish (Xanadu Rockhold surftech - nose: 12.5, 19.75 wide, tail: 15, 2 1/16 thick). In good waves I ride a 6’5" thruster 19 x 2.5. Is 5’8" too short? I want to be able to surf it in small waves to head high (points and beach breaks).

  2. Fins: Keel, twinzer or quad? I’ve done a lot or reading on the forum, but I’m having trouble determining the benefits and draw backs of each setup. A short summary would be much appreciated.

thanks

Hey SCOR,

Unfortunately the scope of your question is impossible to address succinctly. My advise to you is that you go to talk to a sage shaper here in town. If you can catch Doug Haut, John Mel, Ward Coffey, Michel Junod when they have a few minutes I know you get a better handle how various boards and fin set-ups perform.

Good Waves, Rich

Thanks Rich. I sort of realized that after I posted. There are no easy answers on this type of thing.

Thanks for the advice. I will drop in to Freeline and ask John.
