so sad to have the “show me your green swirls” thread go unanswered, just had to make my own…
I like it. Am I seeing all shades of green or did you use black for the dark color. Hope to see the finished board in the resourses.
Ray
Hey 'ray,
It’s a four part swirl; chromium green, lamp black, titanium white and chromium green with a touch of cerulean blue. Didn’t have any faith in the pre-mixed pigments that I could buy around here so I made my own; bought raw powdered pigments from www.danielsmith.com and then ground them in to the epoxy with a mortar and pestle…if you get good loading, the minute amount that you have to add to get good colour doesn’t throw off the mix ratios. They’ve got a GREAT array of colours to choose from; some more opaque than others…some behave pretty much like dyes; cool pearlescents and iridescents too…hoping to get some of those in the gloss coat sometime this weekend. RR epoxy over 1.5 lb eps.
I LOVE a good “fish swirl” thread !! [keep them coming , please ]

Hey Stingray,
Those are some of the coolest swirls I’ve seen. Kudos!
It’s actually two boards!
stingray,
I never thought i would like those two colors together, until i saw it on these boards. great job. keep it up.
austin
Ray , I REALLY like the colours on the tail rails of the one on the right …
…do you have a closer shot showing the rail patterns on that board , please ?
THIS is always what fascinates me with seeing resin swirls , the kind of snakeskin kinda patterns that happen on the rails…it intrigued me when I was watching your video you posted here too, Austin !
So , Ray … are you and Ben Shipper a team now [does he shape, and you swirl and spray and glass ?] You’d make a good team , by the looks !
ben
It’s hard for me to believe that Shipman and Stingray have been friends for less than one year. We met at the beach. There’s a very positive creative vibe that we have together. The Fish surfboards in this thread were shaped by Ben Shipman and glassed by Ray Meek. Shipman also made the wood keel fins for the boards.
Both boards are 5’10" x 21 1/4 x 2 5/8 (Ben please correct if the numbers are wrong).
The board with the darker rails is thicker out to the edge of the rails ,has fatter/bigger fins and a thicker pin line.
The board with the lighter rails has every thing thinned down a little.
Thank you to every one who has viewed or replied to this post. If you have any art work ,resin work ,inlays, wood work, ect please post it on Swayocks. “Share the Stoke !”
Austin , Thanks for the compliment on the colors but it’s really a just a mistake. You can plan the party but you can’t plan the out come!
Have a great day! Go surfing !
