Fishy question

Hi all! first thanks go out to Chips and Hicksy for their advice in starting out to shape my first board. Their ideas and thoughts have inspired me.

Im still at the early stages of template design and have decided on a fish .

I ride a 10’ longboard and a 7’4 retro single fin. I consider myself of average - intermediate ability and I reckon a fish would suit the smaller waves we have here in Perth.

I have checked through archives about dimensions and am confused as to the way to go. Im 5’11 and about 100kg (205 pounds)

Fish dimensions for my size, according to some of the info in the archives, range anywhere from 6’6 x 18 x 23 x 18 to 5’10 x 16 x 22 x 16 etc. sometimes 3.5 thick to 2.5 thick I dont want to shape something that wont float or paddle well but I dont want to shape something too thick and boaty either.

I know definate answers aren’t possible, but a little help from the masters on this site would be much appreciated.

Cheers

hiya Ado !

I just had a thought , mate …

since you are not THAT far down the road from me ,

do you want to have a go on my old Len Dibben [1970’s] twin fin swallow / fish tail ?

…it may , at least , give you a feeling for what a 6’ 1 1/2" x 20 1/2" x 3 1/8" version feels like . And the twinnies are FAIRLY long based.

Anyway , if you want to , give me a ring , eh ? …sunday “may” turn offshore , maybe ?

Or , even if the onshore winds back off ten knots or so , I think I’ll get it out there . So, as I say , you are more than welcome to give it a go if you want , mate !

cheers ,

ben
