I’ve got three quarters of a drum of Silmar 249A. The drum has been outside for at least five years (including Canadian winters). Anyway to make a long story longer, I was getting ready to take it to the hazardous waste depot when I decided to mix a small batch. It seemed to kick as normal and setup fine. Are there any pitfalls involved with using this resin, or should I trust my instincts and run away ?
How’s the color? Does it look like it’s kicked a little (turning light green instead of bluish)? Try pouring out a gallon into an old milk jug. If some stuff comes out looking like snot, you may want to follow your initial instincts and take it to a hazmat dump. Me, I’d salvage as much as possible. If it’s liquid and kicks when catalyzed, it’s usable.
use it. Microwave your resin batch for 20 seconds prior to hardener addition
If it looks and cures okay I say go for it. If it’s been frozen it will probably have kept a lot longer, just laminate a small test patch to be sure.
Sheesh, around here FH puts a date sticker on each can sold and won’t take it back after six weeks. And it may only last eight to ten weeks once you take it out of the store. DAMHIK.
