About a year ago, I shaped and glassed my first board. Had a great time and it works pretty well, but naturally, it has its flaws. The main one that I’m concerned with here was the lamination. I used 6 oz glass with RR epoxy on the bottom side. Some areas needed to be dovetailed, and weren’t. Long story short, I ended up with “bunch-ups” on the deck side right where the lap ends.
Now, realizing that this would be a problem, I sanded them down. But I guess I didn’t sand enough. On my deck side lamination (6+6+RR epoxy), I made sure I didn’t make the same mistake, but what happened was the glass sort of floated on top of these areas that I had sanded, leaving a small bubble. It almost looks like a tiny delam. I just left it as is because I was really excited to go surf. This is an XPS board so I really didn’t worry about it taking on water. But now I want to fix it.
Thought about sanding it down to foam… but I don’t want to lose that double strength glass.
Thought about injecting the bubble with resin…but never did that before.
Thought about doing nothing…maybe I’m just trying to cover up my newbie mistakes to the world.
This is a pretty cool board, and I want so badly to show it off more to people but I am somewhat self concious about this problem. What do ya think I should do?
