Fixing my leash loop

Yes, I’ve seen a couple threads on leash loops, but nothing about fixing them, soooo…

Here’s my story: Got the board shaped (10.6) about a year ago, leash loop included, but the thing is, whoever put the loop on the board either made it too thin, too narrow, or a combo of both, and now I’ve got a loop that’s slowly fraying around the edges (I figure I’ve got a few more surfs in it, but I’d rather fix the loop than wait for it to break completely). I’m doing the repair myself and am quite confident I can do it…

Now, the questions. 1) I’d like to leave the remaining loop as a base and just strengthen it. Is this doable?? Or should I just take off what’s left and start anew?? 2) The “grind zone”. How far into the glass should I take it??

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

are you talking about the thick string that goes in the leash cup?

or are you talking about some string that was glassed into the board?

if its the latter , install a leash cup.

Whereby each time the string has a problem you can replace it.

Ignore my last post.

Der.

Anyways, no, I am not talking about a leash plug (or the “string”), and have no desire to install one. I just want to fix the existing leash loop before it craps out entirely.

If you’re talking about a glass loop, i would think just grinding it off and making a new one would be the way to go.

Sand it off, and start over. Or after sanding, install a recessed leash cup.

if you want to keep the original loop, id sand the area with #80 grit paper, wet out some rovings and drape them over the original loop…

start over, my friend, this is the only option.

Good waves.
