I agree with you in part. I’m not a master on painting boards, but I knew some good guys along my career that used to draw directly on the foam. They generally used 6B pencils and had a very smoth hand for drawing. In addition, they generally covered the pencils marks with black ink, be as pinlines or as handmade contours. Sometimes, blades can leave more marks than a pencil, depending on the artist’s hand.
Howzit speedneedle, Just noticed those boards are Bear’s. A Do you make them? Do you know the story behind how Bill Hamilton lost the rights to build them? Aloha,Kokua
Man, I’m afraid I can’t tell you much. It was 10 years ago. I’m only aware that the proprietor paid a fee for the use of the label. To who I don’t know. I am also not aware if there is or was any connection with Bill Hamilton. Sorry, not really any good goss there.
At Bear I did sprays and gloss coats. I had a lot of laughs with those guys and had a hand in the production of some super-nice boards by Paul Hutchinson, Ronnie Woodward, Brett Munro, Phil Myers and Bushman, under contract.
The oddest thing was, I sprayed one of those sunset murals there, and the laminator swore he was having flashbacks! Turns out he had glassed Hot Buttered boards with the Worthington art in the 70’s!
Howzit speedie, I think Bill lost the rights in 91’ and one of the people who Milius gave the rights to was Randy Rarick. I must say as one airbrusher to another you do really nice work. One design I want to do some day is a metal planking design with parts of the planking peeling off with rust spots and rivets. My mom was a potrait artist and I always knew there was art in my soul but it wasn’t till I started doind tape offs and taped sprays that I found my niche. Aloha,Kokua
Howzit speedy, I never had any proper art education and my free hand art is terrible. I used to laugh when I tried doing faces since they all turned out looking like a greek god or something, my mom was fantastic at portraits. When it came to working with tape offs that's when the light came on really bright and I found my ability. Aloha,Kokua
