Flat Water SUP

I am in the process of shaping a SUP that I will use mostly on a lake. I have a blank that is 12’ long x 30" wide x 6" thick. From what I have read, I will likely use the full length and width of the board, and keep a thickness of 4" - 5". The outline won’t have a ton of curve to it as I won’t want it to track left or right much. My main question is about the contour of the bottom. I have read that flat water should = a flat bottom. However, wouldn’t a concave make the board much more stable? Would I need to vee out the tail? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am also wondering how to incorporate a handle or a strap on the thing to lug it too and from the beach. This forum has been super helpful, thanks to anyone who responds!

If you want to go fast go with a double concave transitioning to a vee in the tail. Make a recessed standing area to lower your center of gravity - make sure it has a way to drain so you’re not standing in a puddle. Put a hole in the deck about dead center about 1.5" deep to put your fingers in to carry the board. And glass it light as you’re in a lake not the ocean.

If you just want to putz around then just sand the blank as-is and glass it.

the infinite variations of shape will be topic la mode for ever.

spreading the responsibility for shape choices is ok.

taking away foam limits your potentials.

at six inches and rectangular

the actual learning in the hands on school will be stellar

if the blank is not flat and has rocker and stringer etc leave it six inches!

glass it square ,no kidding,if you want a lake float.

And then reshape and reglass over and over till you get to an intelectual refinement

based on your personal experiential information.

For a handle, install a Probox on the deck. It’s just the right size for you hand to hold the board. It will work as a handle and then you can use one of their caps to cover it when paddling.
