I am considering buying a Stretch Fletcher 4-fin and was interested in hearing what people have to say about the design, ride and build quality; it would be the poly version. I mainly surf Long Island, NY and New Jersey so the waves tend to be weak and mushy on average.
Stretch’s shop is a block away from me I check in there every once in while and know several surfers that ride his boards. The guy runs a top notch operation. The Fletcher Quad is one of the most progress designs around IMHO. Some of the best surfers in Santa Cruz are riding them.
Remember for N.Y. surf you definitely want more board that you’d want for California surf. Consider that regardless of a board’s configuration if there isn’t enough of it you’re going to be frustrated with it’s performance.
Go bigger than you think you should and you’ll be happy. Just tell Stretch how long of a board you want and he’ll do the rest. It’ll do much better in average N.Y. surf and still rip the big stuff up.
Thanks for the input. When I spoke to the guys at the local shop they told me the stock dimensions for a 6’2" are 19 1/2" wide and 2 1/2" thick, but they could be bumped up to 19 3/4" and 2 7/8". I was thinking of even pushing that a little more to say, 20" and 3". More is better out here and I have yet to be held back by the performance limitations of any board I have ever owned.
