flex characteristics of epoxy resins

Have been using several different epoxy resins lately… have you guys found how much difference there is in the flex of the boards with different resins. i am fortunate enough to cut the same file/ stringerless eps blank and glass it with the same schedule. but use different resins… its amazing the difference in flex & customer feedback backing up my findings. i tried a newly available super white one and its stiff and unresponsive, compared to an imported one thats fast but yellows quickly, but has a very nice flex return… arrrgh the problems choices bring us!

IMO flex characteristics are one of the most important aspects to performance.  We produce four different resins within the 2000/2100 system which give you choice on stiffness.

so many variables it is challenging to have a thorough knowledge of it all. I have been doing some epoxies with diff glassing and some excellent results , but have had a dud just recently so now is time to really understand why ...always looking for the right flex, with sufficient strength but still light and lively....then throw in the costings for this...and the expense of all the trial and error, luck I love it or it would almost be like work.....

4 ??

hypotheticly

let say i am doing a hand lam and wanted a flexy board ( for small waves ) would i use the most flexy one for the lam , then the stiff one for the hot coat for compression strength

Tell me about it pridmore. I could have a hundred more pu stockys in my shop if I didn’t have the stack of experimental builds of boards upstairs… my wife or business partner would freak if they saw them all. There’s a collection of 15 years of experiments from carbon rails, balsa skins, multi core sandwiches etc…Most of then before I found sway locks too. All put away not for sales so I don’t penalize any patents I applied or tried for. Maybe one day I can be a grumpy old shaper and pull out pics of stuff that comes out and say I did that way back then … Haha too funny.
