Does anyone have templates they could post/e-mail me for a flexy fin to be put on a 7’6" gun. never ridden singles and need a fin that bites into the wave to keep my tail from sliding out.
Hey Scott,
If you want a fin with serious bite what makes you think you want a fin with lots of flex?
Mahalo, Rich
the idea was per reccomendation of chip. The board in question is a 7’6" gun with a fin box thats way to far forward. the tail end slips and slides. I thought that a flex fin would allow the tail to pull into the wave more. besides… a cheap plastic fin shouldnt cost more thatn $15 (if i make one). It cant hurt to have a spare fin inmy collection. THis is all experimental. Unless of course, you can explain/clarify how a stiff fin would be better. check post “Tri-fin gun?” for pics of said board. I would really love your feedback on what fin would work best. (for a moment, turbotunnel flashed in my mind)

I’d recommend learning to ride a single fin before you start messing with the fins.
one clarification… Ive never ridden a single fin that was meant to be a single fin. I have taken the side fins out of my thrusters before and ridden them as singles, and I have ridden single longboards. I have never ridden anything under 9’0" that was meant to be ridden as a single. hope this clears up what i was saying.
Hey Scott,
Start conservative:
Put an 8 or 7.5 inch Yater, Wayne Rich Power or Wayne Rich Classic all the way back in the fin box and bump it up a half inch at a time until you fins the sweet spot.

One of these fins won’t cost you a lot of money. These are the kinds of fins that the board ran with in the day anyway. IMHO there’s no sense in trying to put greyhound legs on a beagle.

“the tail end slips and slides.”
Hey Scott -
I’m no fin expert but it sounds like you have a simple problem. Either the fin is too far forward or does not have enough area. What size fin gives you the slip and slide?
Go bigger using current fin as a baseline. If you get a cutaway model, you can sometimes saw off the trailing section of the fin base and reposition the pivot pin so the fin fits farther back in the box - I have several fins that extend beyond the back of the box after modifying the base.
yep, a stiffer fin overhanging the back of the box , then …
Thanks John and Rich .
[I was actually thinking a bit of flex in the fin to ?maybe? help the board feel alive ? , as my old 7’er feels dead now , 6 1/2 years on , so I was thinking of doing the same for that , with the carbon fibre fin I recently made and which Hicksy has moulded the base for now apparently ]

Ill try all your suggestions (never hurts to have too many fins) but i think ill start off with a 8" “hatchet” fin to give me more surface area.
