Florida bought board 1966 anybody know the Logo?

Hi,

This board is a “D” fin 10ft 7ins been outside in the UK for years, bought in Daytona beach 1966, so has lost a lot of the logo’s colour due to fading anybody recognise it? Hobie possibly.

Thanks, Alexcam

Not sure why you’d mention Hobie? It has no resemblance to anything made by Hobie. It’s a popout.

What you have is a Marlin. Made in Jacksonville Florida by the Surfcraft company. They also made Mako and Reef popouts.

In business from 1965 to 1967. Like most 60s popout companies, the shorter boards killed their business model.

Hi, thank you for the observations about this Marlin D fin board and the information referance. Interesting that it has such a large stringer in it. Bilbo and other manufacturers where making them (popouts) in the UK but most Popouts didnot have a stringer in them.Thank you, Alexcam

There’s a good chance that board doesn’t really have a stringer, either.

I’ll venture a guess that the bottom is a solid color and no wood is visible. Most 60s popouts had fake stringers that were routed into the deck. So, they usually did a solid pigment bottom to hide the lack of a real stringer. The width of the stringer is not that unusual for a popout. What would be unusual is a real stringer, wide or not.

Hi, thanks for the info. I’ll have a good look when I pick the board up from the Lady who bought with her father all those years ago. It was she that thought it was a Hobie. Thanks, Alexcam
