I didn’t find any mention of this. In case any of you are coming to the surf expo in Florida in January, you can watch some shaping.
The shape: Robert Strickland (RS)
Contestants:
Friday, Jan 11th: Tom Neilson, Juan Rodriguez, Bill Eberwein.
Saturday, Jan 12th: "Davo" Dedrick, Stu Sharpe, George Robinson.
Sean O’Hare has a poster on the 16 streets page.
Great idea to have a tribute to RS. He is missed a bunch. There’s a heap of us Brevard County shapers that learned
parts of our craft from him. When I was just coming out of my garage phase, my friend Johnny Lucas told me that if I
thought he was good (and I did), I should see the guy he worked with. Luke took me over to the MTB factory and RS
let me sit in on a shape. I learned things that night that I still use everyday.

Got my first MTB from that surfshop right by the entrance to fort pierce jetty about 25 + years ago. Still see Brummet and Takayama here and there, and Mully jr. …well, he’s cranking out his usual 2 a day. Lol
Was that board an RS or a Lucas?
Patrick’s 2 per day is like 4/day for most, since he shapes the blank first before he shapes the board.
Hard to argue with his results, though. I think RS would approve…

Mully’s boards are super clean no doubt. Gotta stand over him with a baseball bat to get any volume lol (i’m 200 lbs) but they’re clean…
Not sure who shaped that old board wish I still had it. Cheers
Just wanted to show the updated expo poster. We are happy to now be providing blanks for the shape-off.
