Foam compatible paint

Is anyone aware of paints that are compatible with Clark foam. My wife is a talented artist, and I wanted her to “paint” my next foam blank once I am finished sanding. So, if you know what paints are good or just as important which paints to avoid. Please let me know. Thanks for your kokua.

There is a great deal of information in the “archives”. Bascially, if you are painting on poly-foam, you use water-based acrylics. Brands such as Liquitex and Golden work well. If your spouse is hand painting, she should not put the paint on thick. No matter what paint she is using, if the design is complicated it is a good idea to spray a light tack coat of a non glossy fixative. Hope it works out. Check the archives! Patrick

You can also paint on the sanded finish and gloss or clear coat over it.I have done this many times for artists that are more used to painting on things more forgiving than foam.At least you can change things.Once you paint foam you pretty much have to live with it. R.B. (water based acrylic is best)

You might want to glass and sand the board first, then paint the artwork on the glass. Gloss and polish out. That way if she has any mess ups on the art she can wipe it clean and start over. Look out for the air pin holes if she does any do overs. once you get paint in those you have to take a roto tool with a dental drill bit to clean them out.
