As a follow up to my earlier post on Egg vs. Hybrid, can anybody here recommend any Central Coast (SLO County) shapers to work with for either of these shapes? The one name I have that I have seen “funboards” by is Dave Martinez. The eggs seem like they may be a bit more specialized, but maybe that’s just a misconception on my part.
Marc andreini out of pismo via beach house in Santa Barbara.40 years experience and rides eggs, etc. all along the central coast.perhaps Kp will kick in and give you a contact number for Marc.
If you have any interest in a Santa Cruz shaper I would say that the two top shapers for a board like you’re talking about up here are Doug Schroedel & John Mel (Freeline). They both have shops on 41st Ave here in town. If I can be of any help let me know. These two guys are about as versatile when it comes to combining ideas into a board shape as anyone I’ve run across. The board in the attachment is a Freeline hybrid and is the type of shape I think you may be looking for.
At least it’s something to put in the stir. Of course there are lots of shapers here. I drop buy the different shops every once in a while so I wanted to give you my take on things. Happy shopping.
Halcyon - thanks very much for the input. What will really make me happy is a shaper who has experience with the type of board I’m looking at, and one that is responsive. By responsive, I mean not only one that I can actually get hold of and talk to, but one that really has the ability to help me articulate what it is I want the board to do, and what kind of conditions I’m thinking of. I’m going to file away the names you gave me, and if I have no luck locally, I may give them a call.
