For Bert

I was walking along Fistral beach , Newquay, England and in amongst the hordes of boards i spotted one with wooden fins and upon looking closer it turned out to be one of yours,i got chatting to the owner and it turned out he wanted to sell it and get something bigger, the board is in excellent condition and he only wanted £160 so a quick run back to the cash point machine and the board had got a new owner , i am impressed with your workmanship and construction methods, the board is beautiful, this was only a couple of hours ago and the surf is flat (right in the middle of the ripcurl boardmasters comp)so i hav/nt had a chance to try it yet but if it goes as good as it looks i will be pleased, what i wanted to ask was the vent plug in the deck is missing so what do they look like or what can i use instead, thanks, pete

well unless its a random appearance …the last lot of boards i shipped to england was in 99 so its at least 5 years old…

ive got one board in my quiver that hasnt had a vent plug for about 6 years…

i lent it to someone and forgot ,when i got to the beach i just stuck wax in the seat…

if you use real soft winter wax its best…

it seals when your surfing, and if the board gets hot enough to do some damage and cause a delam the wax will melt and get pushed out with pressure …

its kinda fail safe coz if you forget to undo your vent its safe as…

only if you go on a plane you should poke a nail or a match stick through and break the seal… coz on a plane you get a pressure difference without a temperature difference…

its funny coz the guy who used to import them into england just rang 2 days ago to order a new board ,hes in queenstown new zealand these days…

hope that helps…

hey whats the order number on the board ??

tell me your size and weight and i can tell if its a good buy and will suit your size…

thanks for the reply, i still hav/nt tried it out yet , we have had a few pulses of swell that suddenly appeared and then gone again and i just hav/nt been in the right place at the right time. the board has glass on fins and the order number is 2416, i wiegh 76 kgs with a few clothes on ,it will be interesting wether you can tell me any of the boards history,

i did/nt realise that you imported to the uk, i don/t think i have ever seen one before, where was the importer located, i live near newquay so you do see loads of different boards either in the water or in the shops. thanks pete

2416, yep that board was shipped on the 17/5/99…

6’-6" x 19 1/4 x 2 3/8 ,with the rocker and tail set up it should take up to 82 maybe 83 kilo comfortably…

at 76 theres more than enough board under you…i noticed its got a slightly stiffer fin set …so its gonna feel real drivy maybe even a little stiff for your size…

if you wanted to tweak it to better suit you , you could take 1/4 " of the rear of the tail fin ,thats if you could live with hacking into the wooden fin without feeling any pain, youd have to reglass / reseal it of coarse…

the guy who brought them in was based in scotland ,we use to ship them to belgium …

and from there he would do the surf shop round in his truck and make his way back to scotland…

i have no idea what shops he dealt with but i know he had customers in france england and scotland…

if you ever see some more of my boards , but with lineup logos on them …(there stolen) there was this dodgy rep who stole a whole shipment of lineups …he was working for another customer of mine , said he had some good connections in the uk and was going to open up some new markets for us .

i was building lineups under contract…so poor wayne the owner of lineup still paid me even tho this other guy stitched him up and stole the boards…

a customer came in a few years back and said he saw some in a shop that looked just like mine i explained that i had made them but under another label…

im sure he said it was on the southeast coast ,on the map it looked like waves would never get there…i thought it was a strange place for a surf shop…

just ask if you have any other queries about care or repair…

ps these days i dont do production anymore , just a handful of boards each week and go surfing and traveling…

its more fun …

thanks once again for the reply, the surf here has picked up to about 6 ft, it came just in time for the final of the ripcurl board masters, so i have had a good surf to try it out , it feels like home strait away, nice and smooth and drivey ,light and responsive, well stoked. i have added an attachment of south fistral where i usually surf just to show we do get surf in england, pete

try again
