Go to the www.skaterbuilt.com site and check out “BROS AND PROS” section.Look up DavO’s pics…if you go to his surfing pics on his second page…
…the pic of him doing a backside topturn into a cutback on a yellow rail/orange fog deck board is a fish I built in the early-mid 90s.If you look at his quiver you can see a swallowtail(Alien series) with clownfish colors and Red-X fin systems…that’s a turn of the century board I built for dave.Herb
…it looks very natas kaupasy to me , if you squint your eyes at first glance it looks a bit like ‘Wallows’ , or ‘Stoker Hill’, only california style ? [it looks a bit less ‘gnarly’ transitions than the Warren Bolster shots I used to see of ‘wallows’ and 'ulu’s, in the 1970s ‘Skateboarder’ mags.
And is that a ‘Dyno’ twin keel / fin fish , in the second shot hicksy posted for you ? …isn’t that what Nuuhiwa [? and Brad McCaul , too?] used to ride in the '70s ?
Chips, that’s devinitely a Nuuhiwa Dyno fish. He still makes them.
Those 2 red longboards are both (!) BOSS boards. Supposed to be the ‘perfect 10-0’. Pretty radical s-deck shape & long flat sweet spot in the bottom rocker.
Herb - DavO & BobO - related? You just don’t see all that many BOSS boards around…
Jankow,I bust surfing/skate airs twice that high easily and do it ollie, rarely do I use my hands and never use tailpads.
Ben/Hicksy,That’s a Boss board as well…guess where Bob Kennedy got the template from…hummmm? It’s a single/boxed w/ a 10"-hi-aspect Lo-ratio Raker in it.
Benny,BobO AND DavO are not related but there are very good friends…just for the record Bob Kennedy should be on that shaper’s tree list foresure.
DavO has two Brom/Dyno’s (Post D.N.,After David left.David defected w/ shaper Terry Martin to start “David Nuuhiwa Surfcrafts”:A very short lived company). Dyno retained the original label until recently when David re-captured it.
It’s a ditch that’s close to my house called the “Euclid VEE” . It’s located in the north OC area/Fullerton,Ca.It’s gotten a bit lumpy.
When urethanes first came around there wasn’t anywhere to ride them except pools, pipes, and ditches…then the big/pig push of skate parks in the later 70s only to vanish by the early 80s…back to pools, pipes, ditches…and a more modern wood ramps…now it’s parks again…for how long?
That what a revolution is about, it rotates, then it stops for awhile…starts back up…Only to come back around in your face !
The black formica bottom skater is DavO’s first Skaterbuilt Template “The Pig Foot” 12" x 34"…it was basically derived from my 12.5" x 33.5" , “THE BEAST” model/templates.He no longer has this board in stock but he might re-produce it again.I have one in pristeen condition, and Yes,it rides better than it looks…His second model was a scaled down version of the Pigfoot called,“The Piglet” 10" x 33.5".A copy of my “Ditch Witch” model.
Trucks you say…215mm Indys or 10" Invaders(9"ers for the piglet)
DavO was the first to market such boards using today’s tweeks and yesterday’s widths…Everyone else just played catch-up!
If you haven’t read the History of SkaterBuilt, give it a whurrl, you find some things to validate what I’ve said to you all this time.Herb

…And , I gotta say… I always preferred the vertical and bowl terrain photos in Skateboarder mag , to the flatland freestyle stuff of the logans , ty page , and russ’s , gymnastic though they no doubt WERE !
