For Mike B, Outrigger Canoes

Mike, I emailed Gary Dierking, the builder of Ulua, the 18’outrigger canoe that you referred to. As he does production,he has a mold that he builds them with, however,he is putting plans together for the home builder. Construction will be of the stip built method, which is very popular with the hobby set. It calls for narrow strips of wood, usually cedar, to be laid up on a form to shape the hull. It is then glassed both inside and out, not unlike a surfboard before seats etc are added. The ama(or float) is built like a surfboard from foam and fiberglass. Plans should be ready in a few months but you should give him an email, seems like a great guy. Paul Boardman PS his email is
