Embrace the future. Masses of uncoordinated middle-aged men sweeping after every slight bump in the ocean, the horizon obstructed by their pear-shaped silhouttes.
I like everything about the idea of SUPs - except surfing them. And carrying them. Maybe because I was around before short boards they just seem beyond regressive as performance wave-riding equipment, not that any or all equipment has to meet any "performance" requirement. And I don't care if the people using them are old or fat or male or female as long as they aren't self-important twits...and that's the vibe I got off that vid. I swear in one of the cuts I could see little dollar signs in the SUPwakes of the hotties.
As the SUP "culture" grows it seems sometimes like they fast-forwarded right past the fun and got straight into the major brand marketing. If it's all about money i wish they'd just go golf. Funny how as the SUP thing exploded the real surf world started playing with (revisiting) the most basic levels of equipment, perhaps recalibrating the experience.

This is the way it will be from now on, dont worry about who actually did what years ago to establish the origins of surfing..thats forgotten ancient history !!
These days its all about creating "instant history and fame"
you ARE part of surfing culture because you bought a SUP with your gold AMEX..
I have read that in some locations they are considered “watercraft” and the operator is required to wear a PFD. Not sure if that would ever be enforced.
