for 'Pico'...

hi mate !

here are some " big and small fin together "  photos ...some setups I have tried on the Walden , over the last two or so years ...

[ I thought I'd put them together on a 'photo thread' , as the canard one of yours is a DISCUSSION thread , eh ..]

  cheers !

hi 'W' !

firstly ...thanks for asking !

well , they are all DIFFERENT ... it's testing my memory ...

[I have been riding the 'Walden CD4' with this [ F.C.S. 's Gregg Webber 'gcrv's ...all four curved fins ! ] for MONTHS now ... which is definately my favouite setup for this board , at present ]

Out of the photos of the setups posted so far ...

I guess , ? maybe because it's closer to a 'twinzer' setup [?] for this board [with far up and far apart plugs ], probably THIS setup was fairly memorable , for its difference ....

boards1.jpg

...as with the front pair , the back fin pair was also made from a  'glo' panel , using 'Nocean's quad / BIG twinny' setup template [that was done as a brown fabric inlay set for him (... if interested , see the 'for Nocean' thread] )

cheers !

...to be continued...

hopefully , as I template more , cut them out , and foil them , perhaps I can give a test ride report each time I ride a new set ? [  but only if people are interested ]

  cheers !

  ben

Hi Ben, you sure are an industrious fellow. What is the difference in ride between the "curved fins" vs. standard? What have you found out about them? I'm interested to know. Thanks Heaps for all the photos.

 hiya , 'T' !

thanks for asking , mate !

 ....well, because of

 my 63kgs ,

the thickness / flatness / width and weight of the Walden ,

...and ...

the thick , flattish , wide-arsed tail ...

I previously had trouble holding a rail through turns . It tended to skip , with 'conventional' fins. [ I didn't like THAT feeling much , at all !]

The curved ones definately feel more 'lively' , and more 'grippy' [that's 'high tech pseudo-science speak' , okay?! ha ] during turns .

They  also seem to ride higher on the face , particularly backhand , I've noticed [...but , that could also be to do with the chine rails , and the deep concaves of the Walden , perhaps ! ]

I probably would  need to 'quad option' one of my other [commercial] 'trusters' , to get a truer idea of what is the fins effect , versus what is the board ...

  ...to be continued ?? ...

and now , as it's 3am sunday morning here , I think I had better go back to bed for a quick 2 1/2 hours ,  before today's dawn patrol ??? !!!...

 cheers mate !

    ben

thanks chippy,

THe prawn looks to have the closest possible relationship btwn the two fins. The walded set up on page two with the front fin only on the back tab looks like a twinzer as well.

Are those last ones kevlar? interested to hear how this worked for you. I made a green panel very thin (like 10 6oz i think) then put  a piece of the carbon kevlar , then glass a bunch more on top. this was the only way i was still able to foil the fins w/o hitting the carbon kevlar.

probably sacrilegious to post an image of a board that hasn’t been sanded, but oh well.

Plan is to put in a tab for a lead canard, and a tab for a trailer. then to play around a lot.

how many layers to fit an fcs tab again?

‘the ugly twin’ ha

I LOVE it !

well,

"how many layers for an fcs tab ? "is a GOOD question .

Unless its moulded , answers seem to vary from ‘26’ [?] to 40 layers , depending on the pressure applied to the roller [?or squeegee?] , how much resin , and what ounces of cloth are used ? plus if inlays of material [yes , it’s kevlar in that keel] were added …

I look forward to seeing the finished board , and hearing how it surfs , mr. pico !!

cheers

ben

CHIPPY Are you saying 63 kgs is ALOT? I sure hope not since I weigh about 75 kgs.

nup , 63 kgs is a light weight  , it  is 138lbs , [2.2lbs to a kg] ....which is  just 2lbs under "10 stone " , in Pommy terms .

and ...I'm 5'9" now   [ I've shrunk an inch or two , over the last decade or so , I guess ?]

you are the same size as my mate Ian ...he's a Tom Carroll kinda build [but probably ? about 6" taller ? than Tom . ha !], but unfortunately for Ian , he don't surf like Tom  [in fact , Ian don't surf any more , at ALL ??!!  ....YIKES , the poor guy ...46yo , perfectly healthy ,  and not surfing ? ....gadddzzooks , maaan !]

 cheers !

Hey ben, hope all is well . Here are the Keels for my new fish.

yeehaaa

…they are  made of ??

double foiled , or single foiled ?

And … I’d LOVE to see the finished board and keels , when ready , please , Pico ??

cheers !
