for the UK shapers/glassers

I am looking to try and locate some UV resin to glass a board or two with in the UK/ ireland and I was wondering if anyone knows who stocks it? i.e. seabase? some-other supplier?

thanks for any information

contact Silverback who posts on here fairly regularly, I know he can get UV resin.

Hey.

I presume you’ve checked Seabase and Homeblown down in Cornwall.

Maybe try Seabase in France as well.

Brian

ask GCS he isn’t in UK but I think he can help u.

If you’re ready to ask from Seabase France, you might as well ask Surfoam. They are in Hossegor, too, a stone-throw away from Seabase, I know for sure that they carry UV resin (many of my friends from the “Shaperoom” internet site here in France use it) and Patrice (“Roro”), the owner/manager is a super nice guy… No advertising intended here, the guys at Seabase are cool, too, but I KNOW that Surfoam has got it…

email me at cerisurf@aol.com - I can supply you with the necessary.

thanks for the help everyone. I had checked seabase site, but the do not list any on their website, and homeblown seems unable to ship to me…but siverback seems to be able to help so I will go from there…thanks for the help again…

Its not on the Seabase website but if you call them they will sell it to you, and give you good advice.

I use silverbacks UV catalyst which has worked out pretty good.

I even bought a couple of sunbeds (£5 each) to assist with the curing.

cheers joe

What sort of sunbed did you use? Full body ones that you would lay in for example? They seem quite cheap, looks like you got a great deal on them! Did you even have to take the board outside in the sun or did it all happen indoors?

sorry but where u come from?

Hi Pj

I got the sunbeds out of my local ad trader one 5 footer and one 6 footer, There the type which you position over a bed and level the canopy with, seems to work ok. I have also seen quite a few on Ebay going pretty cheap. I do all my boards in doors as by the time I get a chance to glass it’s already dark. I’ve glassed fins on and then taken them outside into the sun but the curing is so rapid that you don’t get a chance to work the cloth if their are any bubbles etc caused by moving the board outside.

I’m even using them to get a base tan before going out to the tropics next week whilst I’m wait for other things to dry.

cheers joe

Hi Joe,

Just a one more quick question - what is the gel time you have experienced using just the lights? Do you have any time to adjust? I know when I’ve gone out side you really haven’t any time to do anything except watch you aren’t casting any shadows on the board.

Can I ask what resin you are using and where you can buy it from? I presume you are using polyester in any case.

Thanks for your help.

Hi PJ

I’m using iso 7x from seabase and i would say with the gel time with my sunbeds is about 5minutes, but I don’t turn them on until all the fine tuning has been done. There is a bit of time if you notice something but not much.

cheers joe

I am in northern ireland…homeblown, can not ship catalyist out side of the mainland uk…

Hi Joe - my experience is the same as yours wrt gel time - I also use second hand sunbeds and get a full cure in 5 mins. It’s good if you can jiggle your sunbeds around so you can cure the edges and the bottom. I find that you can get a really perfect glass job if you’re patient. The sun works just fine too!

By the way - October must’ve been good for you eh?

Hi Raven,

I know Homeblown can’t ship catalyst outside of the UK, but my mate in Northern Ireland got Seabase to supply catalyst to him, and they can supply anywhere in Ireland I’m told as they aren’t shipping it from the UK. Suggest you contact them.

I would definately use the suncure resin from cerisurf… I was worried about using it in the UK with our horrendous weather at the moment, but even on a really cloudy day my first lamination went off in about 8 minutes.

As its a powder I expect he can send it to you by post - very quick to deliver and cheap as well!!

Still means you need catalyst for fin boxes I know…

Chris

pj-

I actually live in derry, but for various reasons, I would prefer not to deal with seabase. one of my friends here has had some personal problems with them and I would rather not have to deal with special orders. Besides, if I have to deal with their rep, it means working with some one who is about 5 hours away, just as easy to use silverback, besides his prices are great and I like working with smaller companies.

thanks for the input though

My mate in Ireland orders online and bypasses the rep, and gets great service from Seabase.
