has anyone made [m]any ?

 

  I ask , because I have recently come into possession of some volan ,

 

  which I have cut into 32  8x10" rectangles [layers] ....I think it is 8oz volan....

 

 What I'm thinking of doing is this ....

  putting maybe ?  4 or 5 layers of the volan , per 30-35 layers of plain 4 or 6oz , so I can make ? maybe  six or seven  8x10"  'volan inlay' panels , and therefore get at least 12 to 14 side fins out of them ... or less , 'if'  I do a few [medium sized] single fins amongst them .

 

My question is ...

 

.....do you think the 4 or 5 layers of volan per panel will be adequate amount[s] to get the nice 'volan green' effect in each panel ?

   I was even thinking , on one panel , that I 'may' combine it with the 'glo in the dark' powder I still have , too ....and , ? possibly?  glo powder , PLUS  carbon fibre [one layer] in another one ....

…hello Chippy61, Volan is a finish so you can buy all type of weights not only heavy ones.

You can obtain the greenish look with 4oz too.

Almost all the fiberglass in common places like hardware store or like that have volan finish.

Yes, you can combine them with the silane sheets however the effect is not so remarked as if you put a bit of pigment.

with a 100% volan panel, I have noticed that there seems to be alot more flex out of the fin than with silane glass… I haven’t done alot of mixtures with volan/.silane so I don’t know 'bout greenness

Have you done a volan / silane combination panel before , mate ?  

If so , did you like the effect , was it a bit green ?

how many layers of volan did you use ?

 

I guess I'll do a smaller sized test panel , just  so that in case  no-one out of the 17000 plus people here has ever made a volan inlay fin panel [?!  I DOUBT  it !  ...SOMEONE must have , SURELY ?!] .... then I'll have to be the answer to my own question , I suppose ?!

…hello man, yes.

You obtain the greenish the way I say in the other comment; I mean, is not so clearly remarked like if you use pigment.

With the combo I only did with 2oz, 4oz, with 8oz or more I only did all in volan.

I made the panels and then foiling the fins for all the boards except the ones that go with 4WFS. but in some cases, I did for that system too.

All those fins are done with volan but with pigment. I use silane finishes for fins with fabrics, etc
