Back when Mike Hynson came out with his dolfin design, he did some thick foiled fins. Oneula made some from foam that were 1" thick. We used that for a while. So long ago now that I wouldn’t be able to say if they were better or worse than thin fins.
I think you can get a better NACA foil if the fin is thicker.
