New to the forum, but have read countless threads. I cant seem to find the answer to my question through searching so hopefully someone can help.
I am making a board for a friend, the board is looking good and progressing nicely. However in my excitment i have hotcoated the board before putting on the rice paper logo.
how should i procced to now fit the logo? I have not yet sanded the hotcoat, and the board will also have a gloss coat.
There are many here with more experience and knowledge than me, but I would sand it right back (without sanding through), then, using lam resin, put the logo on under a patch of 4 or 2oz glass just big enough to cover it and reapply a thin hotcoat over the whole deck/bottom (whichever side it’s being applied to).
As cass said: Sand the hotcoated board. With lam resin apply the rice paper lam with a four ounce patch. Some guys will use two pieces of cloth. One just bigger than the laminate and a top layer two --four inches larger than the lam. The idea is that the top layer will take all the sanding and the bottom layer will protect the lam. This a common practice on boards that are opaqued or tinted too dark for a lam to be clearly visible. Usually the deck is doubled up. All the color is in the bottom layer. So a lam can be placed between the bottom color layer and the clear top layer. As most bottoms on boards are usually single layer; The only way to get a lam/logo on the bottom is to put it under a patch . Be sure to use lam resin and don’t over sand. I have seen lam/logos done this way de-lam and peel off. Another reason to use two patches. Hope that helps. Lowel
