Free Standing Light Stand

I’m looking for a space friendly, freestanding light stand for a shaping bay.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Rick.

put a little thought into it…i’m sure you can come up with something

How about something like this…

Pretty simple, just 2x4’s and a 2x10 (or 2x12). Just make sure the feet are long eneough and put on to support the forward weight of the lights.

If you got creative, you could probaly make them dissasemble pretty easy too. Maybe trim the top and bottom of the legs so that they fit snuggly into a routered out hole in the feet and 2x10. Just keep the lights attached to the 2x10. Just a thought. Hope it at leasts sparks an idea. Maybe round wooden rods would work for the legs (too flimsy ?) and a hole saw bit for the feet and top. Good luck. There’s always attaching the lights to the wall with hinges so they don’t stick out so far when not in use. I almost did this so I could still pull a car in the garage…I mean…shaping room.

Aloha Rick

Try hanging them

8’ single tube fixtures

Hmmm… I just checked out Malwitz (good frank) apparently you know about hanging lights already.

Dump the dual light tubes though… way too much light. Hard on eyes and slim on needed shadows.

Why free-standing?

Ask your landlord if you can build simple shelves, and put lights under them. Get fixtures that plug into outlets, and run extension cords.

You’re paying rent, right?

Hey Rick,

At one stage between factories I had a little temporary set-up in the garage…

I bought some free-standing shelving from “Bunnings” (like home depot, but Aussie…) These pressed tin workshop shelves bolted together like mechano, and the underside of the top shelf was a good built-in shade/ledge.

Speedy

well… got a step ladder and a light?

Open the ladder off to the side of your shaping bay.

Choose appropriate step height.

Lay fl. tube light across 2 steps at chosen height, plug in.

Shape.

Unplug light.

Return ladder and light to storage areas.

I only have one wall that I can attach a light/shelf to. So the other light will have to be freestanding. I was thinking about using compression pole shelving much like I used for a wall rack. Either that or make some ghetto wooden stand. I would really like for it to look appealing and legit, so maybe compression pole shelving is the way to go.

thanks.
