freshwater fish shape ideas

I’m interested in ideas on the dimensions and shape for a fish I’ll be surfing in the Great Lakes. My idea was something like 6’6" x 21 x 3 1/4, wide nose and tail, little rocker. I am an experienced surfer, have surfed moderate sized waves around the world for over ten years, weigh 200 lbs. I really liked a 6’2" fish I had shaped in South Africa and surfed in Taiwan. I’m looking for something that will be appropriate for freshwater mushy waves to head high. I have a long board and a thin 6’2" shortboard. I need something in between. I’d love to hear any ideas on shapes and dimensions. Also looking for someone to shape it for a reasonable price. I’ll be in the San Diego area the first part of November.

Thanks,

Shane

There’s no surfing on the Great Lakes!!!

But if there was, a fish would be a great board to ride there. Ryan Gerard at Third Coast shapes and runs a shop in New Buffalo on Lake Michigan. He would be a good source of information about freshwater fishing(less bouyancy)… his forum’s helpful too.

Howdy Shane. I have a 6’6" fish that you’re welcome to try when you’re in San Diego. Pretty much as you described, but a tad wider (22" wide point). Just drop me a PM when you’re coming into town.

PS we have pretty good surf in November, most years…

I agree with Keith’s idea…

Go wider and thicker, but not longer!

Shortperiod windswell means you need quickness, and longer is not the way to achieve that. You don’t need longer turns, don’t need faster speeds, don’t need more holding power.

Just wider and thicker.
