cool board, great choice of fin system, nice graphics. What’s the rocker at the nose tip and tail? did you “bounce” test it yet?

OMG! I thought it was one of Roy’s wooden aircraft carriers when I first saw it… how’s it to surf?

Laughable to say, I haven’t messured the nose and tail rocker - should be @ 3"tail & 6" nose - from the rocker table. But, I think the deck lam may have pulled a little more in… More testing next time. No jump test, thank you. I let time and nature tell.

I rode it first in small “thigh high” waves - caught waves well, quick of the bottom, ok on the flats, which was about all there was. Next time double up, shifty, side shore beach break. Dropped well, seemed a little late, but the wave were mostly wrapping “away” with big sections - good squirt off the bottom, fast in the section. Got one long one conected sections all the way through, but it was a speed race - dropping from mid face and shooting to next section. Best thing I can say, fast off the bottom. I’ll have to wait and see what I can do with an open face. paddled and ducked well. The non-skid is good too.

What’s up with that bottom shape? Is that a channel? Rails? Thickness, width, length? Materials and construction?

Let me see: Length 7’8", width @ 2" fore of center on toe side & @ 2" aft of center on heel side - width @ 21" nose and tail @ 13". Thickness: from @16" - “in” from the nose and tail it is 1 3/4" and the rails are @ 30/70 with a bit of “bite”, little rounder at nose, and “edged” at tail. I used the Dow blue 2" with two 4" stips of 4.5oz uni-directional carbon fiber full length laminated to the deck - which I had “skinned” - under pressure on a rocker table to put in the rocker. 2x4oz bottom w/6oz tail patch and one full length strip of the same carbon fiber, and 2x6oz deck w/4oz tail patch. The bottom shape is an “e” picture copy from the “hic-converter” The full length channel and angled edges are design features I have often worked with, so I tried incorporate some of his thoughts - deepest part of channle 5/8" @ rocker apex=about 2.5’ from nose. @6" wide, getting wider as it goes back @ 9" at exit, and @ 3/8" deep with slight V in the last 18", keeping the V lower than the edges of the channel. The bottom panels are on a 5 degree angle out to rails from center going to about 7 degree at the side fins.

The fins have about the 1 degree toe in, and about 9 degrees cant. I off set the heel side box about 1/2" so I can have the fins perpendicular if I move the toe-side fore, and the heel-side aft. and if I go the other way I can get @5/8" off set w/the heel-side ahead of the toe-side. I am trying 3 different type of Redx right now. The gray on the deck is the Vulkem 116 non-skid. That is about it.

Dude your board looks like it would stuff so perfectly in dredging barrels! Did you use polyester or epoxy resin? What kind of glass? Whatz that crazy nonskid feel like? Cool board!

Oh Parker You so crazy!!! RR epoxy, S-glass, The non -skid feels like… I don’t know how to discribe it. Kind of like those shredded rubber playgrounds, but done on a micro level - That sweet goo has some fiber in it to make it strong… And it makes it “grippier” too! And, I’ll be sure to let you know when I get a better chance to get it into some dredging barrels, as, even though I saw one good “Boiler”, a later look revealed four guys out, and one good wave in 40 minutes - glad I took the earlier option. Stay out of trouble!

How big are you? PM me if it’s too personal.

Just to get a feel as to what your 1.75 thick 7’8" floats…Surelooks like alot of rocker almost like a Shane Webber banana…

Got a 1.8"x7’4"x22"-23" wide 16"Nx15"T concaved deck BurtBurger (Stubb Vector) special I’m finishing.

stringerless with 1" balsa rails.

Been getting real apprehensive if this thing will float me (190lbs)or break in half when I’m done and actually get it in the water…

Kind of interesting going so thin and wide, completely opposite of my BK 3.5"thick x17" wide wide mentality.

Yeah - It looks like a lot of rocker to me too. But look at the bottom more than the top, 'cuz as you related - if you are used to looking at a board with 2/5-3+" of thickness through much of the mid section… I think our eyes are “expecting” to see the differences in rocker profile - top v. bottom. And, if you disregard, to some degree, the last/first 8-12" in the nose - more for chop paddle - then it looks fairly reasonable.

I am about 5’11" @ 185-190 lbs. and if floats me fine - I just looked at your note again, and I would think it will float great - you may be surprised at how bouyant it is… I am glad I didn’t use these techniques and matterials to make one of those 3.5"x17"ers - I’d never get it to dive, or get on edge. I think you’ll be stoked. As for durability… I guess we’ll have to wait and see. let us know how yours goes, and I’ll do a full update after I’ve had some good test sessions.
