So, I’m trying to get setup to make a board for a friend, and he’s very set on wanting future fin boxes because hes got so many sets of those fins, but I’ve never installed them before, and Future Fins just wants to sell this big expensive kit to get the job done. Can anyone help me out, maybe give me a line on how to do a future fin install without that kit? All I have is a basic router.
I’ve done several Futures installs and I can’t think of any way to do it without the proper equipment. In all my experience of cutting corners, it only wastes time and money. More than you’d spend on the kit in the first place.
When do you need it? I get down there once in a while, probably be doing linework as far as Port T this week and next, I could meet you halfway if you need it right away.
The first few future installs I did freehand. It worked fine as long as you are not in a hurry. I have a little trim router I bought from Harbor Freight and it worked great. Ive since made my own templates and that took a while, but makes my life easier now.
