Future fin repair question

Im doing some repair work for a guy that has a few boards with the Future fin system seems that every one that has the Futures has cracked around one or two of the fin boxes. My friend shaped the board and told me that its either installtion error or maybe the type of waves this guy surfs (pipe and Tehopuu). Either way im thinking I gotta make it stronger than it was before.

I stripped the broken glass around the boxes. Im thinking I could reglass 2 or 3 layers of 4oz around the box OR perhaps route a small groove around the box and fill with fiberglass or rope with a couple of layers of 4 on top of that…not sure yet.

Any advice here is appreciated, thanks.

Howzit J., Are the boxes cracked or just the glass around them? If the boxes aren’t cracked then go for the for the extra glass. You can always route out the fin and screw slot which I have had to do when they routed the box holes so deep that after sanding the board the holes were still covered with glass. Aloha,Kokua

Nope just the glass around the box is cracked so I guess extra glass it is. Hey you probably know this guy too hes one of the Kauai boys Reef Macintosh.

Howzit J., Watched him grow up, he's one of andy and bruce's best friend and he is a top notch ripper. His brother stops by my shop to get scrap glass for repairs. I think if Reef wanted he could have made the pro tour since he can hold his own with Andy and Bruce. Did a couple of boards for him a few years back.Aloha,Kokua

Nice guy, hes giving me lots of repair jobs from the Quick house at pipe.

I asked him why he doesnt do contests and he said “too much politics” said he didnt want to deal with the BS. Guess hes doing pretty well as a free surfer, just saw some clips of him surfing out of control GIANT Tehopuu. Gotta have balls of steel for waves like that.
