Futures Fins

Currently waiting for my new board which comes equipped with a Futures Fins set up- I’ve not had them before, as previouslyI’ve only ever had glassed in or FCS which always give me problems - keys and screw threads wearing out!

Anyway, just wondering what type of Fins I can use?

I’ve found Rainbow Fins do fins for the Futures set up but are there any others out there I should consider?

cheers and happy xmas from Wales!

You’ve got quite a few to choose from in plastic, glass and three different styles of carbon, including the vectors from http://www.futuresfins.com You can also get proteck. Cheap too, ranging from £8.90 from seabase in the uk.

Håvard

Thanks for that Havard,

I was wondering what other companies out there made fins for this type of set up as I fancy experimenting a little but found the futures website either catered for short or longboards.

I was hoping for something to use as a twin fin set up with perhaps a longer fin at the rear.

They actually make a twin fin set with small trailer. Work well IMHO specially together with the C5s. Check under speciality fins. As for larger keels, they wont fit the box because the keel fins are so much longer than the box so they will cover the screw hole or need a cut out in the board (or a cutaway trailing edge) to get in.

I’ve broken two large future side fins (right ones) on bottom turns, I now use Rainbow fins setup, I believe the one’s I have are Mark Goin templates. They work well, lots of drive.

you broke the fin boxes or the fins themselves? Is this the twin fin setup that is breaking for you?

The fins broke at the base, I have yet to break a box out even on very lightly glassed boxes. I’m around 125 lbs…

Strange, I’ve hit rocks with those fins at full speed. No breakage. And I’m around 200 lbs… What did you do to break them? Manufacturing defect?

thinking of buying the twin fin set with tiny trailer for my thruster. Anyone try this and like it?

One for sure on a bottom turn, another is still a mystery… I have a ufo fish thing that can be surfed pretty hard off the back foot, and surf a few NorCal reefs during the summer when I use that particular board. This was over the course of 2+ years no problems with the glass fins though.

Guys

I have busted the box out with my leg and find that afer a while they get water under the glass resulting in a wobbly box which is a bit of a pain. But in their defence I too have hit rocks and been fine.

I’ve a custom 7-6 Loehr “half fish”, 15.5x21.75x15.5x2.87, pointed nose, single wing swallow, 8lb, extruded PS/epoxy in 6-6-4 over 6-6 glassing, set up as 2+1. It’s magic as an “almost” thruster using 4 5/8 Futures sides with a 5" center.

Using Futures 5 1/8" twins with 3" small box trailer is a near equivalent to the “almost” thruster set up. I’m very soon to be 58, 5-11, 185, and now marginally prefer the slight added directionality (trackiness) of the “almost” thruster config. Evaluate as you will, bearing in mind that a few years ago, I would have much preferred the twin/trailer set. Been surfing since '62, ain’t thrilled by accomodations to age I’ve been making over the last few years. Some comfort taken that I can still get it up, though.
