Has anybody used the futures leash plug? Is there something wrong with it? I have one I am getting ready to install, but somebody warned me their might be a recall.
Thanks,
Jason

Installed about 100 before they got recalled. Heard. 2 stories…1 was about the depth, one was about the pins popping out if installed lengthwise.
We never had a depth issue, and always installed them pin in line with stringer.
No fails yet, that I know of. If you do jnstall it just do the pin in line with the stringer
Cool thanks Acqua!
If you’re not doing a ‘‘through the box’’ leash loop, then a cup is in order. Why buy one, when you can fabricate? Use a 1/2 inch PVC pipe end cap. I use a 1/4th inch dia Nylon rod to attach the leash to. You can also use stainless steel rod, carbon fiber rod, or brass rod as the attachment. All are quite serviceable. I’ve never had one come out, and I’ve used them in 10 and 12 foot winter surf @ Sunset Cliffs. Broke leashes, but no cup failures. A white PVC end cap, set in the board with white resin, makes a very clean and most importantly a strong installation. I started making leash cups, as described above, in 1971. It was at least a year or more before a ‘‘commercial’’ leash cup hit the market. So, don’t be lazy, make your own. It sets you apart from the pack.

Acqua Glassing…please explain
Why on earth does it matter where the pin is. The leash plug is totally indepent from the stringer. …aside from some resin…
maybe I missed something…drill a hole…set the plug…sand…very happy simple install…
Nice Mr. Thrailkill. I like it, will give it a try.
Hi Bill,
I have never installed a Futures leash plug…and I have no reason to make my own…Why…
A short drive to Oceanside California and I can buy leash plugs for $1.15 plus tax. Big plugs and small plugs. White and black… WTF…
Easy install…you people are crazy… keep it simple stupid…$1.15 for a plug. done deal…
@ stingray from what i understand the box was flexing outward into the foam and the pin popping out. When the pin was inline with the stringer I’m guessing the stringer/ glass matrix held said pin in place. Idk, i didnt engineer it, i just put in what people ask for. I like the system though if they work out the bugs
admirable admiral thrillkill
thanks for the insight.
my brain went into the abs cap archive and pulled up some 2’’ end caps
a d made an exploded version. …ambrose…
Don’t forget to factor in the cost of gasoline @ 4 dollars per gallon, and the total miles driven to obtain said leash plug. Might not be as ‘‘economical’’ as you think. Do not discount the pleasure of creating/fabricating your own surfboard hardware.
agreed - sometimes its fun just to try something different than what everybody else is doing
No joke about the gas. The closest place for me to get leash plugs closes at 430, and can take an hour in traffic sometimes to get to. If it is during the week I will have two screaming kids in the car. I have a hardware shop within a mile. It sounds much easier for me to make the leash plug, than go buy one if I am not heading there for something else. I appreciate the option.
Huck that leash plug is pretty slick.
