Futures template alignment vs. measured marks

Hello,

I’m nearing the end of my 3rd build, first quad.  After taking the time to get the measurements for fin placement using the Mckee system, when installing the futures fin system the template marking plate  has a centerline, and a hash on either side for use when marking the right or left fins on the board.  My question, is why not use the center line? Why am I taking the time to get all these numbers correct only to have the template mark 1/8" off to either side from what the system measurements were?

The center line is for center fins or double foiled fins.

The marking plate is moved out for the side fins so the flat side of the fins line up correctly.

I use the center mark for the rear quads as they are mostly double foiled.

The marking plate always is moved out to the rail.

X2 on what Barry said. This will help it make sense. Look at the tab on both the center fin and rail fin. You’ll notice that the tab is centered with center fin edge and flush with the flat side of the rail fin.

Ok, thanks.  Makes sense.  Sometimes I just like to know the reasons behind what I’m doing.

Sometimes.
