Futures twinzer plug

I wanted to know why the future twinzer plug looks the same as the FCS plug. When I called Futures they came right out and said yes it is the FCS plug. So that being said why would they not make their own? So the install is the same as the FCS. Weird.

Besides maybe a similar tab slot, it looks nothing like any FCS plug and the install is not like FCS installation. There’s an aluminum jig plate and you use the same collar for installing the upper flange for the Futures box

thanks for the reply. I had called Futures and asked them and they said “yeah its the same thing, same install” I must have been talking to a new intern or something. I have the install kit for the reg future plugs, but I haven’t see the install jig for these? Where can I get one? I see that you have the full kit for them. Is it very expensive? Can’t imagine its cheap, but can’t imagine that you’d use it much. I’d like to pick one up, but $$ is the factor. Also is there only the regular twinzer fins made by futures for them? I’m sure I can get a couple from FCS, but overall there seems to be a limited amount available.

The angle of the screw is different than an FCS plug and some people don’t like that.    I’m no fan of FCS plugs in general but for a leader and adjusting the angle and all I’d rather use that than the Future plug.

Anyone know where I can pick up a jig for these?

Surf Supply  O’side has em’.

They are called C5 Fins and Fin Box.  They originally made them back when Rusty was making the “Twinzer” main stream.  We have them in stock as well as the Jig and Target.

Give us a call or email if we can help.

Best of luck and happy holidays.

Brad

Don’t use the Future C5 plug. The grub screw lands too low on the fin tab the installation is far too fussy when compaired to a installing an FCS plug or half an FCS fussion box. You can easliy put in 1/2 a 5 degree or 9 degree 1/2 fussion in and have something much better and do it with ease. Having made many canards for C5 boxes and seen the tabs go to hell and many fins lost as a result I give the above take on twinzer canard boxes.

Back to gluing ~

Aloha, Rich

half a fusion box rich?  I don’t think I ever would have thought of that…  do you route the hole with the normal jig and just stop halfway?

Yo Keith,

Just separate the two Fusion plug down the center with a hacksaw.

Then round off each piece with a small grinder or sanding block with

course paper. Next cut a hole in bottom of the board

with a 1 3/4" hole saw so the plug will fit a proper depth

which quite easily done by tapeing the hole saw to

match the depth to the plug depth. Set it at a depth so it can be capped

properly when laminating. To take the plug left by the hole saw just

use a dremel tool with a cylindrical attachment. I have several of different

configurations that are crusted with diamond chips. They’ll last indefinately.

I set my plug by cutting glass cloth cut across the bias to make a nice strong

matrix of fines in the glue up around the plug.

Just touch your way into to foam slow to acheive a good fit.

It’s very easy and requires little expertize, which each in his

own way falls short except for a for very not so special

self proclaimed individuals who shall go unnamed (-; ~~~~

Stay Stoked, Rich

Wow, that’s genius.

I have to try that.

Thanks for the advice, Rich. After riding Knowaloha’s real deal Jobson, I’m looking into getting one made for me and then making myself some twinzers. I was thinking about which plugs to use. If I don’t go with the 4wfs (rep lives down here), then I’m going to have to hack some Fusions (cheaper than buying two round plugs, and get more fore/aft adjustment).

Yo,

Wil is married to Futures, unfortunately.

I don’t he’ll be convinced to go with another system.

Good luck, Rich

I shortened the tabs on the Futures TW canards so they fit in FCS plugs. Figured I can do the same with Wil’s, then I can stick them in Fusions or 4wfs on my self shapes.

Good to see you posting, BTW.

ghost - that’s what i do. Been doing it for years with no problems. These days, I’m lucky enough to be close enough to Rainbow to drop in when I need something, but cutting the tab down on the Futures works well. The cant is already in the tab though, so if you set it, bear this in mind. Also means once you set it with that cant, FCS tabs wont work. If you set it with FCS tabs, you end up with way more cant when you fit the Future tab… better this way I think.

Like Halcyon says, Wil is hooked on the Futures, so there’s no option there. But, getting one from him is the best way to go if you want a magic board. He’s still around the Santa Cruz area doing some boards if you want one, but not for a whole lot longer I think…
