Anyone used G10 epoxy sheets for fins before? I think ive seen it done somewhere, but just cant remember. I’m thinking about ordering some, but wondering how easy it is to foil. Ive foiled plenty of wood fins before, but never anything else. Looks like this stuff might work good for making custom fins for boxes without the hassle of making panels.
Yes
everysurfer- how did you like it?
I LOVE the stuff!
It foils like butter and give you a topgraphical map of your foil.
if you’re doing FCS fins, use 1/4" stock
just ordered some 1/4". Only downside i see with it is that it only comes in the green color. What should i seal the fins with after i foil them? epoxy, or is a sealer like the behr floor sealer fine?
No need to seal with anything unless you want to change fin color. Wetsand to desired grit.
Most knife and gun stock suppliers have G10 in every color and even two tone.
I’d like to get hold of some, but it’s hard to gome by in Aus.
i have a couple of twin sets made by Greg Griffin though and they are awesome. Very very stiff and twangy.
there are TONS of colors and, like Lavarat posted, lots of 2 tone colors that make a cool woodgrain effect when foiled.
the colored stuff costs more though
Sounds like a build thread for fins:) Anybody game?
I have done a few fin projects with G10 and wood.
Here is a link to my first project: http://www.swaylocks.com/forums/g10-mahogany-fins

Swied,
Thanks for the links.
That lime green fin was pretty awesome. How did you like the flex of it?
Cheers,

hard to get in oz
I would LOVE to try some , as hand laying up fin panels for the last 14 plus years = lots of work , only to foil maybe 85 % away !
cheers

Thanks Jason! I ended up cutting it off at the base and glassing it to my 8’4" gun. It is super solid, with no flex – just the way I like it.
good stuff. foils so nice and surfs really good. kind of expensive but beats trying to lay up a fin panel just the right thickness to fit in fcs slots - always grinding away or adding a little bit can never get just the right fit. 1/4" g10 is perfect.
…HAVE any aussie 'Swaylockians ’ done the G10 homemade fins set option , yet ?
cheers !
