Grasshopper, sell me those keels!
thanks for the info everybody...
Grasshopper, your blog is sweet!
Me too, GregTate … but let’s say… HYPOTHETICALLY if some backyard hack was to take on a new project … will someone who knows tell if -
-
one should go with .313 thickness to insure sufficient material for a 1/4" tab?
-
maybe this stuff could be … clamped, heated and bent at the tab for built-in cant?
or why not shape fin and tab seprate add the cant to the top of the fin and glue it together. G10 is tough this may almost create a breakaway if you nail something hard
1/4" fits tight in the proboxes
If you needed to build cant into the fin, i think the best way would be to build a layup surface with an angle on the edge. and layup your own fin panel. I have thought also about building the tab and fin speerate and attaching them with the desired angle but this would probably prove to be more difficult than you think to get it right.
No need to buy mine - build your own - they will be mo betta!
I will hopefully have some sweet pics of an obx dream session courtesy of hurricane bill to put up on the blog soon!
G10 is the bomb for clean foiling! It goes a bit slower but that is a good thing for a hack like me. Wood is way harder for me to get strait.
The easy way to add cant is to go Probox or sand down one side of the fin tab and add tape to the other side.

I have done it the for real hard way too, sand down your tab and put tape or release agent inside the fin box. Then tape your fin in at the proper cant and add resin +glasspowder-filler.Pull it out just after the resin sets up.
I really like the fin template on that cute fish. Where did you get it from , is it the Greenlight one ?
Neato blog too btw.
The template for these fins was drawn freehand after checking out all the different fins on offer at rainbow fins and true ames - heavily influenced by the Pavel Keel Haulers. I marked out a few reference points (base length, height, and rake) and went to town drawings a couple different curves and using the one I liked best.
has anyone tried foiling the black stuff?
can you see the foil lines like in the green stuff?
these guys offer several different colors:
