Gary proper model "hobie"

im doing a restore for a friend on a near mint gary proper model its got maybe four dings on it not even through the foam no discoloration …Yellow h.d.f balsa and cedar tband cream tint origional fin the thing belongs in a museum .one owner riden twice in storage for 30 some odd years… my ? is will I devalue the board if i remove the original price tag done in magic marker when i buff it out

LEAVE IT EXACTLY AS IS. A serious collector will value it more. Don’t polish, or rubout the board. Leave the few dings alone. The original price on the board IS part of what a collector will value, and PAY FOR.

OMG…Bill is correct, LEAVE IT ALONE. If you touch it I will personally drive down there with my brothers and kick your butt.

Ever see the Antique Road Show…If not watch it and see the value of thing that people cleaned up a bit.

Totally with these two–it’s ironic that if there is such deep soul in a piece that “it belongs in a museum,” so much of the soul of that thing is in fact only perceptible to (even knowing) eyes in its skin.

One more thing–pics please!?

point taken…wont touch try and post some pix…she"s a jem…original price tag 180 plus 10$ tax…p.s. not for sale ever in good hands

Fix the dings and bring it to the Big stick Logjam in the spring. Surf it w/ the soul it has.

pre- 1970 – no cords – pleasure point

Restoring it will make it look better !

And you’ll be able to surf it !

But the value of the board, even if it’s done professionally at 100%, will go down dramatically.Herb
