I have been reading all the posts regarding the Costco imports. Obviously, this subject is close to home for many of us. We have seen many expressions of dismay, disgust and even racism over the idea of foreign mass production operations nipping at our heels. How many of us can honestly say that we haven’t bought into the same program when it comes to cars, shoes, appliances, gasoline, etc, etc??? How many domestic tradesman have been shut out of their own professions by our own buying habits??? We’ve all seen the bumper stickers that read “I’d rather push my Harley than ride a rice burner” or “Support the US, buy American.” I point no finger, I’ve contributed to the trade deficit as much as the next guy. To steal a phrase used by Doc Holliday in a Wyatt Earp movie I saw once, “My hypocrisy knows no bounds.”
All this costco stuff means we are one step closer to having to buy a ticket to go surfing. ie; skiing. SteveA

I do see this hurting legal, regulated shops and forcing more borderline folks into clandestine factories, forgoing inspections, fees, taxes, etc.

I do see this hurting legal, regulated shops and forcing more > borderline folks into clandestine factories, forgoing inspections, fees, > taxes, etc. In that senario, U.S. material prices will not likely drop, when the raw materials involved in overseas production are manufactured outside the country, and are limited to overseas use only.
