Hello! I have a question for whoever can give me some advice! I was recently told by a current member on here, deadshaper, to ask anyone for some advice on how to get started in the surf industry. I recently moved down to melbourne, fl from virginia to start my dream of making and designing my own surfboards! I started surfing at 13 and haven't surfed in years and I'm so happy to be able to get back out in the water again! If anyone has advice, tips, personal experience, or knows anyone who could help me get started shaping, making, and desinging my own boards, I would GREATLY appreciate it! thanks so much!
Howzit waterlover, Maybe you could be a little more specific when you say getting started in the surf industry. If you mean just learning how to make boards then you have come to the right website because there is more information in the minds of Swaylocks brothers than any place on the earth in just 1 website. But we know a lot more about other parts of the surfing industry.Aloha,Kokua
See if there is any local shaper you can hook up with. A shop that has its own shop label boards will probably have a shaper nearby. Bring an offering, i.e., candy, beer, etc. Help out and absorb all the technique and info you can. Listen to what they tell you and never touch the outline!!! They probably won’t mind a girl hanging around too.
