I really like those, Walnut and pine? I need to make a sunburst for my next fin.

Cheers,

Austin

Hi Austin, actually they’re Pacific Maple and Radiata Pine. I’m a high school woodwork teacher and I’ve got a few of my students that are keen surfers, so I thought I’d show them what you could do with a few scraps of timber that were sitting around. The didn’t like them much because they’re not Thruster fins!! Sooo easy to make and foil if you’ve got the right tools.

hey Craig,

nice fins man, now i see what you were talking about. what are they sitting on in the picture?

i saw the other one with the checkerboard stuff, Chip stuck it on here somewhere.

i picked up another board from the tip today. they have a Zeigler board there shaped by Tom Peterson. asking price is too high for me, it doesn’t have a fin either and is more a stinger type shape. not my style.

later,

luke

Howzit Rhino, I was with the father of the 17 year old kid shaper who posted the " would you trust a 17 year old shaper " post and they are from Cardiff area. Do you know a guy named Jon Gibb, he and his family just moved here a year ago. Really nice Dad and son jon jr. I've been making laminates for the 17 year old son lately. Aloha,Kokua

John Gibb sounds very famaliar…Maybe one of my neighbors? Do you know what street he lives on? I’m over on liverpool, Have him PM me and we can have a little Swaylocks get together.

Cheers,

Austin

“They didn’t like them much because they’re not Thruster fins!!”

Kids…they don’t know anything…

Where are you a Shop teacher? I built my balsa board in my schools wood room, took the class for 7 semesters and now I’m on the ROP advisory committee for the Torrey Pines High wood working program here in CA.

Cheers,

Austin

Hey Austin, I’m in Newcastle, Australia. Our “woodshop” seems a bit different to your set up, although I have had one student make a Balsa board (years ago).

Craig.
