glare problems

I wonder why nobody wears sunglasses while surfing on really sunny days. I was recently in Hawaii for a friend’s wedding where I was able to sneak out and catch a few waves at Waikiki. At home I typically surf really early in the morning before work so glare isn’t much of a problem. However, it was a different story in Hawaii. As much I loved the beautiful sight of Waikiki from the lineup, I couldn’t keep my eyes open for more than 5 seconds at a time because the glare was so strong. But then, when I looked around, nobody seemed to be having any problems. That’s when I started thinking about sunglasses. I remember a few years ago Oakley came up with a model designed for surfing but I guess it didn’t last too long. I know there are few companies out there who market similar products.

Do any of you wear sunglasses while surfing?

If not, why?

…I have this problem, but with sunglasses I loose balance…the same with neoprene hood or helmet…

Maybe your eyes where tired of the wedding party :))))

Howzit reverb, I remember surfing San O a few years back and there was a group of guys wearing black trunks, black rash guards and sunglasses. Thought I was surfing with the Blues Brothers. Came to the conclusion they were enforcer wannbes since they couldn’t surf that good but wanted their presence known. I’ve seen a few of these types in the line up at Hanalei and usually they end up going in when they realize that we don’t care what you wear it’s how well you surf. Aloha,Kokua

A friend bought those sunglasses that are advertised on surfline. I said that they fogged up too much to be useful.

i have glare problems too and i’ve tried different products including goggles specific for surfing…never worked…total pain in the arse…cant get comfy and they fog up and the glass is drippy…

so far for me the best solution is wearing a surf hat…makes a big difference on the eyes…second is to not use white colored decks

I remember that a long time ago I had a kind of conjunctivitis which gives me a strong photophobia. I needed to stay closed in my bedroom wearing sunglasses even to watch TV.
