Glasing Racks

Does anyone know where I can buy some glass racks? I want some commercial ones that bolt into the floor, and well I am just not that handy when it comes to welding!

Thanks!

the 1 foot lift racks are the best. [/quote]

are those the racks that you can step on a pedal / lever to lift the board for doing the laps?

the 1 foot lift racks are the best. its an easy design but will cost you almost double on the racks because there is more material.

I’d like to challenge you for that title Doc…

I agree with all of the above. These would be a cinch to weld up and any shop should be able to knock them out.

Since you guys are a production shop, you should know what height you like your racks at right?

If there is not one set height, making them adjustable should be pretty easy as well.

Hey thanks guys! I should have put in more info. We are a production shop doing 10-15 boards a day.  We are moving expanding into a new shop and thought we would get a few new racks with the move. We really need hieght adjustment, so I guess off to the local welder.

I have free access to a full on welding shop, but my glassing stands are made from 2x4s in buckets of concrete along with my shaping stands,go figure.Like doc said,I’ve adjusted both a few times to get them where I like.

Agree with Jesus once again.

Also, bear in mind that these are not Grand Prix motorcycle frames, okay? They just have to hold up a surfboard plus the force of a guy with a squeegee. The worst welder in the world ( that’s me) can do an adequate job of putting them together, plus if you do 'em yourself you will be able to go back and redo them to get the height just right and so on.

And - unless you’re setting up a professional production shop, doing many boards per day, I would suggest that you make something more temporary and very adjustable. Getting the heights perfect and such is important…wrote the man who went to the neurologist today about back pain… and you will want to get that right, and chances are you won’t know what’s just right until you use it for while, find what’s comfortable and accessible and all.

It’s good to learn from your mistakes…but it’s better to learn from the mistakes of others (yeah, that’s me again) without the penalties we’ve paid on the way.

Hope that’s of use

doc… also known as ‘that old guy with the funny limp’

try a local welding shop

Fiberglass Hawaii and FoamEZ sell what you ae looking for.....but I think they are Shaping Racks......Ha Ha....

yup… Saves on the back

You can make pretty good ones with some square stock and some C stock and a good metal bit… no Welding involved.

the lifting kind?  with no welding?  any pics or plans?

You really should check out Guilhem Rainfray's mechanized lift on his custom glassing racks.  I'm sure they cost a pretty penny but... holy cow!

Check at 6:20 in THIS video.

sorry I should have clarified… The t racks are easily built that way… the adjustable would require welding… Im sure you could fab them without… but I wouldnt go for it.

Use perforated C channel and square tubing and bolt up cross piece ( can use L or C here; both vertical and horizontal (Wide SUPs) can telescope if you cut out the perfs making a slot, secure adjustment with removable pin/bolt .

If you want to get fancy use a hvy duty drawer slide placed between C channel and main vertical rister tube  for smooth ht. adjustment.

Lots of mounting/configuration hardware available for Perf Channel.

o’course couple of screwed  2X4s , sak o concrete and a 5gal bucket saves time and money.
