Glass-on fin ?

Making a board for our dear friend who is turning 60!!!

9’8 crusier. Glass on fin. Poly.

QUESTION:

SHould I do the initial atttachement of the fin to the laminated board, with A. lam resin, B. Hot Glue, or C. 90 minute epoxy (hte kind that has two small tubes and you squeeze out the two and mix)

I use the 90 minute epoxy for tailblocks, and it would seem to be a good option. I don’t have a hot glue gun, so that might not be an option…

thanks in advance

Drew

No wrong choices there…

I like the 5 minute epoxy even better than the 90 minute. It dries a little more yellow, but you only need a couple drops & they’ll be hidden. With 5 minutes, you don’t even need to tape it - you can probably hold a fin & a square up for that long

Ever tried cyano-acrylate glue? One or two drops, press down for ten seconds, hard. Just be sure to press down at the right angle.

I did some R&D work a few weeks back with acrylate adhesives (methacrylates, I believe). That stuff is incredibly strong!! If you put the fin on with that stuff, it’s NEVER coming off!

Yes, Joshmosh, it’s strong. But you can still rip your fin out with a strong lateral blow if you realize that you didn’t set it right…

(I know, I had it happen more than once…)

5 minute epoxy work great success everytime
