Okay… I’m kind of cheating. I’m asking about a board I didn’t make or glass… I had this board made by a really great local shaper and glassed at the shop he had a bay in. I’ve had the board for three years now, but until this year it’s taken a backseat to my fish. No I’ve been reaching for it everytime we get some surf and I LOVE it! One problem… The glass job on the board is failing me in some really bad ways…
first I noticed that the tail was really, really fragile. It’s very foiled out, and there’s a super sharp edge on the rail… the glass cracks above that edge constantly. I don’t know if there’s a resin bead around that edge and essentially a hollow area above it, but that’s what it looks like when it cracks…
Now my new problem… this is really bothering me. The board has started developing cracks in the glass exactly underneath the pinlines! Of course I can fix them as they appear, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to be a real solution. In many places around the board you can see some discoloration underneath the pinline where I suspect new cracks will be appearing shortly.
What can I do?
