Glassing a 28" wide board

How the hell do you do it? Just run the laps kinda thin and use 30" Volan or the bfg Aerlite 6oz? I really wanted to beef up the rails for paddle hits and I was going to run a strip of 7.5 on the rails

Just glass as normal, then for extra lap, lay down a strip 8" wide full length, and use it around the rails.

mucho gracias senor leedd

Alright! So which board are you glassing? I did one where I off set the deck cloth a little to each side which was more than enough to get good laps…

Im glassing the 12’6. Im doing a fabric inlay inside the pinlines with a lt. blue tint on the bottom. Im pretty sure Im going to offset the cloth aswell as run a strip (or 2) on the rails.

Blane… this board is friggin huge! Exactly those dimensions except its alot cleaner of a line on the aps3000. I suck, but Im having soooooo much fun. I got it scrubbed out and spackled (its 2.5 EPS, but the spackling hides my horrible hack job, or atleast makes it less noticeable) And I plan on getting it glassed and boxed this weekend. Heat up the garage and get a little cure going, with the launching next weekend? I dont have my paddles built yet, but maybe I can knock em out next week. If not, I really built it to tandem with my girl (or thats what she thinks), so that will happen next weekend.

Now its on to the 2 14’ paddleboards Ive got foam for (thanks Ken!)

It appears as though we have the makings of a POS SUP swaylock fleet. with commodore “the turd” heading the armada. Definetly not coming to a break anywhere near you soon. Ive got a ton a pics snapped and depending on how it comes out determines how many I post. I think you CAN have too much comedy, the mothership here being all the prof I need.

28’’ wide means you set yhe selvage of the cloth,30 ‘’ ,

parallel to the stringer offset by approximatly 10’’ off center

if you wanna keep it simple and parallel so be it.

if you wanna maximize cloth use I suggest bending the cloth lap to follow the contour of the rail, this will make the lap contour do just fine but be careful or the bend in the nose on the deck wil not lay flat…

go buy some 38’'wide cloth

life will be much easier in the long run.

30 ‘’ cloth maxes out on a 22’'+ wide board…

…ambrose…

rail strips… hmmm

not clean…

buy the right stuff,

be proud of your finished product

for years to come

but where does one find 38" wide cloth? Id like to stay away from piecing it together.

nevermind ambrose, I got it. fiberglasssupply has it all the way up to 60" wide. I had no idea

go chatto

I sense the coming of another

we are collectively behind you

Use 60" wide fiberglass and cut to desired width. Use left overs for other projects.

My boards are 4 feet wide (48 ")

enjoy:

Maona is building his second fishboard. I am still stuck on my first one. The boards are 13’6" x 48" x 5.5-6". The outboards are Yamaha 8 hp. short-shaft motors, 2 stroke.
