As a one man operation with a regular 45+ hours/week job and a family, factoring in time to surf, one month sounds about right to me. I try not to glass too late in the day so the fumes have time to blow out(my neighbor’s kid’s bedrooms are right downwind of my shop) and clear the air, so sometimes that cramps my style when I’m trying to get a board done quickly.
I can glass six at a time in 3 to 4 hours. then the other side the next day.Hot coat the next. One side in the mourning then the other at night. I don’t usually sand but it would take me about 1.5 hours per board. So I could probably do six in 5 to 6 days. We use uv cure here so I can knock off a couple of days.
when I do glassing for other shapers I tell them approx 2-3 weeks, depending on the time of year.
Christmas time around 4+ weeks.
If I build a board for myself I’ll shape it in the morning and if it has plugs set them in the arvo. If glass ons I’ll be sanding the board before the day is out.
Doing it all myself, about two weeks, if I get in the shop about every other day for an hour. Sanding takes a couple hours.
I get out of work, and either surf or go to the gym, or go to the shop for an hour or so. So for me, it’s one “day” each: lam hull/reinforcements, lam deck, hocoat hull, hotcoat deck/install leash plug, install plugs/boxes, sand.
If I botch the sanding job, which I’ve been known to do, another couple days fixing the damage! Then I’m knocking down the price and paying for my mistakes, too.
