Glassing a winged and or swallow tail

I was wondering how you cut the glass to go around a swallow tail and also around wings that are on a board about 8" up from the tail. I watched the Glassing 101 video by JC and it only showed a squash performance board- No wings or swallow tails. Please let me know how to cut and lay the glass for the strongest bond! thanks. (Drawings help if you know how to draw!!!)

cant give u a drwing, but cut slits at the side of the tail, like u would for a squash… then in the buttcrack…and fold them over, see how much u need to cut. ull be fine!

dj - just a suggestion - most posters on Swaylocks type in both upper and lower case, use punctuation, and spell out words (“you” unstead of “u”; “you’ll” instead of “ull”). This may seem old-fashioned but it actually helps everyone to communicate…even those in other countries, and old guys (the ones who provide you the best tips!)

I would not lap the inside of a swallow, just let the glass run to the edge. Yese this is fragile, but the inside is not a high stress area nor likely to get dings. At the inner and outer corners of swallow tails and at wings you’ll need to cut gores. Fold the dry glass over as if you were laminating it, you’ll see where it wants to bunch up and the gore will be required. Hint: all corners and edges of any board (nose tips, stingers, wings and tails) attract dings as if by magic. At least one extra patch of glass there is a help. Better still, wet some roving (I just pull apart a 5 inch square of glass) and lay it around the corner on some tape after the lamination.
