I was recently given a raggedy old soft surfboard similar to the Catch Surf construction - basically a big bodyboard with fins… my question is this: if I tear this thing apart, re-shape it and vac bag it with wood veneers and carbon rails will it work as a surfboard? Anyone ever try this? Just a curious thought…
I think it depends on the foam used for it. Some soft boards actually have a type of styrofoam as the core. Usually, the cheaper ones. BZ and the like use some kind of polyvinyl foam. The main thing with either is the amount of flex and the fact they don’t have a real stringer. Even the BZs with the imbedded stringers bend a LOT.
